Your wedding in Catalunya...

This post is for all of you planning your weddings but also for anyone who wants to browse wedding ideas for the future or even plan a summer holiday in one of these beautiful places....

In my next couple of posts you´ll find a list of stunning venues where you could have a chic city wedding in Barcelona, take your vows overlooking the sea or get married in a rural setting in the sun...so get your coffee, sit back and I hope you enjoy reading...and also Congratulations to those of you who´ve just got engaged!

When you search for wedding venues abroad, usually the websites show you enticing photos but give no further details about location, whats on offer etc until you contact them directly, but in this post I´ll try to give you as much information as possible to help you make your decision.

1) Take your vows overlooking views of the beautiful blue sea of the Costa Brava at the Convent de Blanes.

Located on the Costa Brava about 30 minutes drive from Barcelona, you´ll find the Convent de Blanes
Here you can hold the ceremony outdoors overlooking the Mediterranean, an impressive and beautiful backdrop for a wedding. The convent itself can be rented in it´s entirety for the celebration and you can have the sit-down dinner or wedding breakfast inside the rustic but hugely well-conserved & elegant convent and the dance in a great space outside or in.

I think the most beautiful part of this venue is the surrounding greenery contrasting with the Mediterranean blue. The gardens are extremely well cared for and it´s possible to have the aperitif outdoors, again overlooking the sea.

When you visit this venue, they offer you a list of partners who they work with who provide the catering, music, flowers etc. Although this is helpful in one way, it also restricts you if you would like to choose a different supplier. The venue is run by the family who live there and they help you with the arrangements and the organisation on the day of the wedding.  A hotels list is also provided of places near to the Convent in Blanes, as there are no rooms in the venue but the centre of Blanes (by the beach) is a 10 minute drive down the hill. (they offer a minibus service)

If you´re looking for a sea view location with rustic charm then this is a great location and the best time is spring because of all the beautiful pink hydrangeas that cover the garden area.

2) A wedding with the wow factor! Set right on the waterfront, the W Hotel offers 5 star luxury food, service, rooms, party and day after relaxation by the pool!

The aperitif can be taken outside on the deck overlooking the sea and there are a number of different sized function rooms to hold your wedding breakfast or dinner. The impressive part is when all the guests are seated ready to eat, the curtains open slowly to reveal the most incredible view of the Barcelona coastline and sea. A great backdrop to a wedding dinner. The dance is held in the same room which allows plenty of room for individual bars and a dance area. Perfect for those looking to keep the dinner and dance in the same area.

Having been to a close family wedding in the W Hotel, it really is a stunning affair with a great atmosphere and visually beautiful....

The hotel provides the food and offers helpful lists of photographers, djs, bands, florists for the couple. However, you are able to choose which suppliers you would like and can tailor your wedding as you wish from 100 to 1000 guests! The benefit is that close family can stay in the hotel with the newlyweds although the prices are high, especially in the summer months. The views and accommodation are incredible and definitely make for a memorable experience and a fantastic suite comes free for the bride and groom with the wedding package.

3) City chic...Get married in one of the most emblematic and famous buildings in Barcelona...Casa Batlló

Gaudi´s beautiful modernist building could be host to your wedding banquet, and located right in the city centre on the prestigious Passeig de Gracia, it couldn´t be more of a city chic wedding!

The aperitif can be held outside on the opulent terrace and the dinner held in one of the many rooms inside. Depending on the size of your wedding you can choose between the different banquet rooms (up to 300 guests) and the venue also offers catering and a great area for the party afterwards. The benefit is that it´s very central and therefore easy for guests to get taxis back to their hotels or from the airport and also there are plenty of churches in the centre of town should you wish to have a church ceremony before heading to the venue.

Did you get married in Barcelona or do you have any other great venue suggestions for the perfect wedding in or near the city? I´d love to hear about them...

In the next few days I´ll be showing more rustic chic venues away from the city centre and out to the beautiful Costa brava of Catalunya, with some great photos of a friend´s weddings and some views from my own..
