Sitges...The best day trip from Barcelona

Sitges is the perfect place to visit if you´re in Barcelona for a few days and want to do a day trip. It takes about 25 mins by car and 30 mins by train direct from the centre (Sants Station is best), and costs less than 5 euros.

For me it´s the best place to visit close to Barcelona as it has a cute town, port and long promenade for weekend strolls. It´s also great for spending a day relaxing in the sun, with its beautiful long sandy beaches & clear water.

Most tourists stop at the first beach directly in front of the town but if you want quieter and cleaner beaches, then the best idea is to head up towards the right when facing the beach (direction Terramar hotel) and walk along the promenade for about 15 minutes.

There are also plenty of chiringuitos to have a coffee, drink or lunch and if you´re looking for something more formal then my top recommendation is La Fregata which is beside the main church (easy to spot on the beach). Treat yourself to lobster and cava overlooking the beach...it´s amazing!

Sitges town itself is cute and small & has some lovely local clothes and furniture shops as well as bars and restaurants.

If you´re looking to go for a longer stroll, you can either turn right along the beach and walk the promenade to the end, or you can turn left to walk to the port (passing and trying not to stare at the nudist beach on the way).

Sitges Port, or Aiguadolç, is pretty and usually very busy in the summer months around lunchtime (about 3pm) as many locals enjoy the fresh fish and paellas in restaurants such as Can Laury. After lunch in the port you can chill out in one of the small water-side bars and sip on a cool cocktail or a big old Estrella!

Stop for a drink at the port

At night Sitges comes alive. It´s a popular gay area and the bars are lively & friendly with fun commercial music. There are plenty of bars in the town and by the beach, the cocktail bar Villa Lola is a cool place to spend a night with friends.

Remember, the last train back to Barcelona´s at about 10.30pm...but if you don´t make it there are plenty of hotels in Sitges...
