Coffee and lunch stops just off the Rambla

The first time I visited Barcelona I remember wandering up and down the Rambla trying to find a nice place to have lunch & a coffee that wasn´t going to rip me off. Now I´ve got an idea of some great places here´s a list of my favourite spots right in the centre that are well-priced and delicious...

Half way down the Rambla on Carrer Ferran, you can find the Schilling Café. With it´s cool, brasserie style design and food ranging from tapas to cakes to cocktails, it pretty much hits the spot for whatever you feel like.
Address: Carrer Ferran, 23
Nearest tube: Liceu

Central Café is right at the top of the Rambla along a street called Pelayo / Pelai. It´s probably a more typical British lunch stop as it does tasty salads, houmus with pita, & salmon tartare if you´re feeling healthy, or delicious melted cheese mexican wraps and cheesecake if you need normal food!! The coffees are great and you can also take-away. Unfortunately it has no outdoor terrace but it´s super clean, friendly and well-priced.

Address: Carrer de Pelai, 39
Nearest tube: Plaza Catalunya

As it´s still hot here in Barcelona, you may want to sit on a sunny terrace to enjoy your lunch, so I totally recommend this little café off the Rambla, called Kasparo. Located in a pretty square and off the beaten track, you can sit and people watch or if you have kids, let them play in the park, while you choose from a selection of tapas, bocadillos (baguette sandwiches) and cakes. It´s an oasis of calm away from the buzz of the Rambla with it´s dappled sunlight and pretty arches.

Address: Plaça Vicenç Martorell, 4 (Off Carrer Bonsuccés, 3 roads down from Pl. Catalunya on the right)
Nearest tube: Plaza Catalunya

If you´re not sure what you fancy for lunch then head to Woki Organic Market which is a 3 minute walk from the top of the Ramblas. Here you can decide between fresh pasta, soups, salads, burgers, stir-fry dishes, tapas or healthy vegetarian dishes (and all organic). The place is great inside and you can sit and watch while the chefs prepare your food.

If you just have to have tapas, then try the recently opened Adagio Tapas, on Carrer Ferran. Jordi Herrera, who already has a 1 michelin star restaurant in Barcelona has opened a more accessable, humble tapas restaurant with seriously gastronomical tapas dishes at about 10-12 euros each. If you want to taste "real tapas" then this is a good place to start. It´s not as pretty or cool a setting as for example, Mercat del Princesa in the Born area, but the food is great.

Address: Carrer Ferran, 21
Nearest tube: Liceu
