The perfect café con leche

The perfect café con leche is not just about the taste but also about the location. There's nothing better than sitting on a beautiful terrace with a view of Gaudi's Pedrera building or people watching in one of Gracia's busy squares with a coffee and a friend. In this blog, I promise to find you the top 5 café con leches in Barcelona to enjoy on an autumnal day in the sun.

1) Bar Kasparo is a cute little cafe in a quiet and pretty square just off the Ramblas. You can sit outside under the arches and watch the kids play in the small park while you drink your café con leche in the sun. If you´re shopping or sight-seeing in town and need to get away from the noise this is the perfect option. It also does tapas, salads and sandwiches...do not miss out on the brie, avocado and sundried tomatoes baguette!

Address: Plaça Vicenç Martorell, 4
Nearest Tube: Liceu

2) Le pain quotidien: Being a Londoner living in Barcelona I was really excited when they opened up a Pain Quotien here in Barcelona! Not only do you get a good café con leche (quite big sizes though so go for the small) but you also get a cosy, welcoming bakery and restaurant with a terrace directly opposite Gaudi´s famous Pedrera building. This cafe is just off Passeig de Gracia and perfect for a lunch or coffee & cake stop.

Address: Calle Provença, 300
Nearest Tube: Diagonal

3) Café de la Virreina is found in Plaza Virreina in the cool Gracia district of Barcelona. It´s the perfect stop between town and heading up towards park Guëll. Mid-morning it´s a quiet, sunny spot with a beautiful church and cute boutiques & home-made kids toy shops.

Address: Plaça Virreina, 1
Nearest Tube: Fontana
Cream tea at Santa Eulalia

4) Santa Eulalia Café is one of the best kept secrets in Barcelona.  Hidden away on the top floor of an upmarket clothes shop, you´ll find the Ciudad Condal´s answer to an English cream tea! The café con leche is also great if a bit pricey.  Although it´s a slightly mini version, the cream tea allows you to choose from a selection of small sandwiches, cakes, scones and macaroons. With a terrace for having lunch in the summer months, this place is great when taking a break from shopping on Passeig de Gracia.

Address: Passeig de Gracia, 93
Nearest Tube: Diagonal

5) Bar Lobo: My final suggestion for the perfect coffee stop is Bar Lobo in Calle Pintor Fortuny. Part of the well-known Tragaluz group, this hidden-away spot offers white tables and cute cushions on a sunny terrace just off the Ramblas. This place is also great for a quick tapas or bite to eat for when you don´t want to head too far from the centre of town.

Address: Pintor Fortuny, 3
Nearest Tube: Catalunya
